The Intern Experience: Vicki Qian’s Day 1

We’re happy to welcome Vicki Qian–a junior at MICA–to the Drexler team! We’ve asked her to catalogue her experience and share it here. So, without further adieu, meet Vicki:

I was born and raised in China, with a huge interest in art and design. My passion for graphic design began in middle school when I was making PowerPoints and spending days playing with different layouts and fonts. The shape-moving motions and page transition animations drove me into interactive design, which is now my biggest design concentration.

For college, I decided to go abroad to the States to seek a higher level education at MICA. During the junior year internship hunt, I pulled out all the local design studios’ websites included in MICAnetwork. I had almost given up until I checked out Drexler. The unique interaction on the website attracted me and made me send a cold email right away, which happened to be at midnight on Thanksgiving. Surprisingly, I got a reply.

Strategic design thinking and narrative-driven design are the things I feel Drexler embraces the most, which are also great qualities I wish to have as a designer. As I write this on day 1, I’m really looking forward to this intern journey.
